Aveston 2-1 Coventry Copsewood from the Stratford Herald

The Stratford Herald has published the Alveston Team photo and match report for the first league game of the season which took place on Sunday 5 September 2010. Full text from the article reads:

Alveston U11s began the new season with a 2-1 win over Coventry Copsewood

Alveston U11s got their season off to a winning start, with a hard fought 2-1 win over Coventry Copsewood. In their first ever game both at 11-a-side and in the First Division of the Coventry League, Alveston started brightly and were soon ahead when a through ball from Roshen Foley sent his striking partner Harry Spencer in on goal, and he coolly slotted the ball under the advancing keeper.

Copsewood responded strongly, and it took a superb covering tackle from Alex Connor to keep the home team ahead. Alveston struggled to get their passing game going, and were soon punished when from a long ball their defence was caught square and Luke Strong netted. The goal unsettled Alveston, and they were thankful to their defence of Alex Connor, Jake Greaves and Jordon Pace as well as keeper Isaac Downes, that they went in level at halft ime.

The second half saw a much improved Alveston side as they came to terms with the pace and physicality of the game. Billy Dingley and Matty Rickett started to control the midfield, feeding Josh Humphriss who crested havoc and panic in the Copsewood defence.

Alan Mackinnon put in some crunching tackles and Jamie Stephens continued to probe down the left-hand side. The home side were now creating all the chances. Dingley split the defence with an exquisite pass which Humphriss only just failed to convert and Aaron Taplin delivered a great cross from the right which Spencer worked the keeper.

However, it wasn’t long before their dominance paid off. Matty Rickett found Humphriss on the left hand side of the area, and he cut inside before firing an unstoppable shot into the far corner.

How to find Alveston Juniors

Alveston Juniors play their home games at
The Home Guard Club
(near Beeches Walk) Main Street,
Tiddington
Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 7AY.

But many Sat Navs (using CV37 7AY) will plan a route through the centre of Stratford upon Avon as this post code does not find the ground with accuracy. As we all know, traffic can be busy in the town, so for the ten away clubs, it is use CV37 7AT or long/lat 52.201217,-1.672961 to find the ground, avoid the town centre and save time.

This route (from the A46) follows the A429 Barford bypass, past Charlcote Park (look out for the Reindeer) and into Tiddington. Journey time from the M40 Longbridge Island should be 12 minutes.

See below for a map of all the teams in the league with their locations. Click any push pin to plan a journey or find out more. For a full screen version click here.

League Tables for Divisions B, C and D Game Week One

For those of you interested in the other 33 teams in the Coventry Leagues at Under 11s, here are the tables after Week One.

Not much to look at now, but as the season progresses you never know who Alveston may meet in the Knock Out Cup.

Why call this site Alveston2000?

Alveston Football Club have 14 teams (AFC First Team, Reserves, Youth, Academy (Under 15s and 16s) and Juniors (Under 8s, to 13s). So, the current Under 11s and focus of this website are Alveston2000 (or Alveston 2000) because the team were Under 10s last year and will be Under 12s next year - their name and age group keeps changing. Alveston2000 does not, it takes it's name from the year were born (for most of the players). One team, one website, one name.

In this digital age, Google will produce search results for Alveston Juniors Under 11s and when you are lost and need to find a pitch - Alveston2000 is the keyword you need.
